John may have been a kinsman of Edmund Pyne of Upton Pyne, but he himself held property at Bradwell in West Down and East Lyn in Lynton, in the north of the county. In July 1411 the justices of assize were ordered to postpone hearing a suit brought by him against Joan, widow of Robert Yeo, relating to his landed holdings, and the case was again postponed a year later on petition of John Yeo until his return from service overseas. It is possible that he also owned premises in Barnstaple.
