MALLEY, John, of Worcester.

It may have been this John Malley who, in association with Thomas Mal, chaplain, obtained in 1390 a 34-year lease from Maiden Bradley priory of one third of the manors of Kidderminster, Oldington and Comberton, in Worcestershire. He had become a citizen of Worcester by September 1402, by which date he was probably already holding office as city coroner, but on 3 Nov. following the sheriff of Worcestershire was instructed to replace him because he was insufficiently qualified.VCH Worcs. iii. 169; CAD, iii. Malley became closely associated with Sir Walter Cokesey†, a former knight of the shire, who long before his death in 1405 made him a trustee of his manorial holdings in the county. Following his two elections to Parliament and a single term as bailiff of Worcester, he attended the city elections for the Parliaments of 1413 (May), 1414 (Nov.) and 1415, on the last two occasions finding mainprise for the appearance of Richard Norton and John Wood I, respectively.
