HUMBERSTON, Roger, of Leicester.

A member of a prominant Leicester family, Roger was a brother of the mercer, William Humberston, MP in 1378 and mayor in 1389-90, and possibly an uncle of Ralph Brasier alias Humberston.Roll of Mayors ed. Hartopp, 23, 25, 27. As a leading figure in the Corpus Christi guild, he was involved in 1392 in the foundation of the chantry at St. Martin’s. He also appears to have been a trustee of certain lands belonging to the Newarke college and hospital.CPR, 1399-1401, p. 371; CP25(1)126/73/22, 24.

Humberston owned a considerable amount of property in the borough and suburbs, including a tenement, two messuages, six cottages and various plots of land. In December 1416 he was pardoned the forfeiture of his goods and chattels as a result of his outlawry in the court of husting in London at the suit of the executors of John More, mercer.Leicester Bor.
