SHAFTO, John (?1693-1742), of Whitworth, nr. Durham.

John Shafto, a Tory, succeeded to his brother’s seat at Durham in 1730 after a close contest. Unopposed in 1734 and 1741, he voted against the Government in all recorded divisions. He died 3 Apr. 1742.
