Stradling owed his Cardiff seat as much to his own influence in Glamorgan, where his rent-roll was said to be £5,000,Gent. Mag. 1738, p. 546. as to the support of his brother-in-law, Thomas, Lord Mansel, a former M.P. for the boroughs and the county. Described in 1715 as a Tory who might often vote with the Whigs, he voted with the Opposition in all recorded divisions. In 1721 his name was sent to the Pretender as a probable supporter in the event of a rising.Stuart mss 65/16. He retired from Parliament in favour of his eldest son Edward in 1722 and died 5 Apr. 1735.
