TREVANION, John (c.1667-1740), of Carhayes, nr. Tregony, Cornw.

Under Queen Anne Trevanion, a Tory and a member of the October Club, who had an interest of his own at Tregony and had been active in Cornish elections, had been ‘highly discontented that his expectations ... [had] not been answered’ by Harley.HMC Portland, v. 233. He was chosen for the county in 1715, at the same time acting against the Whigs at Bodmin.Cal. Treas. Pprs. 1708-14, p. 284. Shortly afterwards he went over to the Administration, speaking and voting in favour of the septennial bill in 1716. He voted against the repeal of the Occasional Conformity and Schism Acts but for the peerage bill in 1719. His conversion brought him no office but lost him his seat for the county. He died 15 Aug. 1740, aged 73, leaving an estate of £4,000 p.a.Gent. Mag. 1740, p. 413.
