Charles Vanbrugh served under Byng at Cape Passaro in 1718, in which year his brother, Sir John Vanbrugh, designed the gun-wharf at Plymouth.Lysons, Mag. Brit. Devon, ii. 459. He stood unsuccessfully for Plymouth on the Admiralty interestCal. of Vernon-Wager mss in Lib. of Congress, 59. at a by-election in 1739, but was seated on petition, voting with the Government on the place bill next year. He died 2 Nov. 1740.
