Grimston was brought in on the family interest at St. Albans, his brother, Lord Grimston, withdrawing in his favour on the morning of the election. In 1786 he voted against Richmond’s fortifications plan, but he usually followed his brother’s political line, acting as an independent supporter of Government, and he voted with Pitt on the Regency crisis. He did not stand in 1790, his brother requiring the seat for Lord Salisbury’s friend, John Calvert.
He died 25 Apr. 1814.
