Irvine’s family was closely related to the Irvines of Drum. A number of his Irvine relations were prominent London and Aberdeen merchants trading to France and Sweden. After serving in America, Irvine sold his Artamford estate, made a wealthy marriage, and settled in London. In May 1786 he was brought into Parliament for East Looe, as a Government supporter. He voted with Administration on the Regency question, but is not known to have spoken in the House. He died 24 Dec. 1789.
