MANNERS SUTTON, Lord Robert (1722-62), of Kelham, Notts.

Lord Robert Sutton (as he was usually styled), was returned unopposed for Nottinghamshire in 1754 and 1761. In politics he was a dim figure, and seems to have followed the lead of his elder brother. Yet on 13 Nov. 1762, when Newcastle was hoping to win Granby for Opposition, he wrote to Hardwicke:Add. 32944, ff. 354-5. ‘I had Lord Robert Sutton and Mr. Thoroton with me; I am extremely satisfied with them both; I think they are sure.’ Six days later, on 19 Nov., Sutton died.
