Overbury evidently owed the reversion to the assurance office, granted to him and his brother Giles in 1609, to the influence of his eldest brother Sir Thomas, the intimate and adviser of the rising Scottish favourite Sir Robert Carr.
The assurance office reversion fell in about 1629, whereupon Overbury and his brother Giles leased it out for £400 p.a.
