Re-elected without opposition in 1690, and classed as a Whig by Lord Carmarthen (Sir Thomas Osborne†) in a list of the new Parliament, Gurdon was granted leave of absence on 2 May to recover his health and died the following month. He was buried on 23 June, being succeeded at Assington by his brother Nathaniel.
