RAMSDEN, Sir John, 4th Bt. (1755-1839), of Byram, Yorks.

Ramsden’s half-sister married Lord Rockingham, and one of his full sisters was wife of William Weddell, all three households being on terms of intimacy. Rockingham arranged his election for Grampound with Edward Eliot;Rockingham to Portland, 1 Sept. 1780, Portland mss. and he voted regularly with the Rockingham party but is not known ever to have spoken in the House. He voted against Shelburne’s peace preliminaries, 18 Feb. 1783, was absent from the division on Fox’s East India bill, 27 Nov. 1783, but as an opponent of Pitt was refused re-election by Eliot in 1784.

He died 15 July 1839.
