WYNN, Sir William (1678-1754), of Bodvean, Caern.

When on the death of Sir Thomas Wynn his son John felt unable to stand for Parliament, Sir William Wynn, a life-long Whig, was at Henry Pelham’s suggestion returned for Caernarvon Boroughs.Add. 32734, ff. 297-8. In 1753, when John Wynn decided to stand himself for the county, Pelham and Lord Powis tried to persuade him to make room for William Bodvell in the boroughs, but John Wynn replied that he had already promised his uncle that he should retain the seat. William Wynn similarly refused Newcastle’s request to give it up to Bodvell,Add. 32995, ff. 110, 118, 126. and was returned unopposed, 29 Apr. 1754. He died 20 May 1754, before Parliament met.
