Allanson Winn owed his seat for Ripon, where William Laurence managed the returns, to his connexion with Laurence’s sister-in-law, the widow of Charles Allanson, whose cousin and heir he was. He made no mark in the House, silently supporting Pitt’s administration. In April 1791 he was listed hostile to the repeal of the Test Act in Scotland. On 27 Oct. 1793 he renewed an application to Pitt for an Irish peerage, which he obtained in 1797. He voted for Pitt’s assessed taxes, 4 Jan. 1798. He died 9 Apr. 1798.PRO 30/8/107, f. 227.
