BARNE, Barne (1754-1828), of Sotterley Hall, Suff.

Barne, a barrister, was again returned for Dunwich on the family interest in 1790, but vacated before the first session was out. Since 1788 he had been anxious to procure from Pitt, whose government he silently supported, a commissioner’s place at one of the boards,PRO 30/8/112, ff. 319, 321; E. Suff. RO, Barne coll. 359/70. and in April 1791 his wish was met. He remained business manager for the family and his aggressive cultivation of their interest at Dunwich fomented a rebellion there in 1810, but it blew over.See DUNWICH.
