GOLDING, Henry II (d.1593), of Gray’s Inn, London.

If the identification of this Member is correct, he was a younger relative of Henry Golding I, whose half-sister Margery married first the 16th Earl of Oxford, and secondly Charles Tyrrell, a gentleman pensioner whose mother was a daughter of an earlier Lord Mountjoy.Vis. The Mountjoys were joint lords of Callington with successive marquesses of Winchester, and William, 7th Lord Mountjoy presumably nominated his distant relative for the borough.

Golding’s father may have assigned him property in Suffolk, but the only reference found to him in the county records is in 1573, when George and Henry Golding were called upon to show by what title they held the rectory of Poslingford.W. It is not known whether he practised as a lawyer; after his call to the bar the Gray’s Inn records do not mention him again. He died v.p. in 1593, administration of his goods being granted 26 May to one Thomas Dent, the administration act book describing both Golding and Dent as ‘of Gray’s Inn’.PCC admon. act bk. 1593, f. 56.
