ESTCOURT, Thomas (1569-1624), of Shipton Moyne, Glos.

Estcourt was presumably returned for Malmesbury because of the proximity to the borough of his father’s estate of Shipton Moyne. A lawyer, like his father, he may have been in London at the time of his return. It was quite common for small boroughs to return local men whose business had already taken them to London. In the early Stuart period, to which his career properly belongs, Estcourt gave up his chambers at Gray’s Inn, was knighted, served as sheriff, and achieved knight of the shire status in the year of his death.Vis.
