Cartwright was connected with James Brydges, later Duke of Chandos, who on becoming paymaster general in 1705 chose him as deputy.Cal. Treas. Bks. xx. 141; C.H.C. & M. Baker, James Brydges, 1st Duke of Chandos, passim. Obtaining office at George I’s accession, he was returned for Bossiney, voting with the Administration in all recorded divisions. Classed as ‘Cadogan and Carnarvon’ by Craggs in 1719, he did not stand again, dying 20 Oct. 1736.
