After the Sword Blade bank’s suspension of payment in 1720 (see Caswall, George) business was resumed by John Caswall, in partnership with a former cashier of the firm. Returned in succession to his father for Leominster in 1741 as a government supporter, he was absent, apparently owing to illness, from the divisions preceding Walpole’s fall. Declared a bankrupt in January, he died two months later, 18 Mar. 1742.
