Samuel Child was a partner in Child’s bank till the death of his brother Francis in 1740, when he became head.F. G. Hilton Price, Marygold by Temple Bar, 30-33. Before the election of 1747 he declined an invitation by Sir Hugh Smithson to join him as a Tory candidate for Middlesex, having previously promised Sir Roger Newdigate his interest, should the county meeting approve Newdigate as a candidate.Newdigate Diary. Returned for Bishop’s Castle on the interest of John Walcot, who owed Child’s bank a considerable sum of money on mortgage,Walcot mss in Salop RO, 30 Apr. 1747. he was classed as Opposition. He died 1 Oct. 1752.
