Returned for Devizes on the Eyles interest Eyles became a member of the gaols committee of the House of Commons and a trustee for Georgia, voting with the Government. Described by the 1st Lord Egmont as one of Walpole’s ‘creatures’,HMC Egmont Diary, iii. 168. he obtained a place worth £500 a year.Gent. Mag. 1739, p. 305. In 1734 he appears to have also stood unsuccessfully for Calne. After Walpole’s fall he gave up his seat to George Lee, exchanging his place for a sinecure appointment. He died 21 Sept. 1750.
