While serving in the West Indies in 1744 Frankland captured several ships, including one said to have been worth ‘half a million of treasure’. As an agent for the sale of other captured ships, he dealt in very large sums of money.Sir R. F. Payne-Gallwey, Ped. Frankland of Thirkleby.

In 1747 he was brought in for the family borough, classed as a government supporter, sitting until 1780, and again in 1784, dying on 21 Nov.
