Hitch was returned after a contest for Knaresborough, not far from his estate. Except on the peerage bill, when he was absent, he voted with the Government. Rewarded with a commissionership for stating the army debts in 1720, he did not stand in 1722, dying 6 Nov. 1723. One of his sons was receiver general for the West Riding.
