JEAFFRESON, Christopher (1699-1749), of Dullingham, Cambs.

Christopher Jeaffreson succeeded to estates in the West Indies and Suffolk, acquired by his great-uncle, John Jeaffreson, who migrated to Antigua in 1624.Oliver, Antigua, ii. 106-9. At a by-election in 1744 he was returned unopposed for Cambridge on the interest of his friend, Samuel Shepheard, voted for the Hanoverians in 1746, and was classed as Old Whig. At the general election of 1747 he was replaced by Shepheard, who was anxious to substitute him in the second seat for Lord Dupplin, but was dissuaded by Henry Bromley, Lord Montfort.See SHEPHEARD, Samuel. On Shepheard’s death next year he was again returned. He died 18 Jan. 1749, according to William Cole, the Cambridge antiquary, ‘from too much drinking, which brought him into a consumption.
