Sir William Lewen, a London merchant, who was first returned for Poole during his brother’s mayoralty, represented the borough in four Parliaments. A Hanoverian Tory under Queen Anne, he voted against the Government in all recorded divisions of the 1715 Parliament. He died 16 Mar. 1722, making his nephew George Lewen his heir.
