Joshua Lomax was the son of a successful Lancashire attorney, who bought Childwick Bury in 1666. Both he and his father were Dissenters. After standing unsuccessfully for St. Albans in 1715, he was returned for it at a by-election in 1717, defeating the Duchess of Marlborough’s candidate. In Parliament he voted for the repeal of the Occasional Conformity and Schism Acts and for the peerage bill. Defeated in 1722, he died 11 Dec. 1724.
