John Lumley, who shared the sinecure bequeathed by his father to his three younger sons,See LUMLEY, Charles. stood for Arundel on his family’s interest, coming out bottom of the poll but securing the seat on petition. Holding court appointments, he consistently voted with the Government till the breach in the royal family, when George II complained that one of the ‘boobies and fools’ whom the Prince of Wales listened to was ‘that stuttering puppy, Johnny Lumley’.Hervey, Mems. 817. He abstained from voting on the Spanish convention, dying shortly afterwards, 16 Oct. 1739.
