During the 1745 rebellion Lord Robert Sutton (as he was usually styled) commanded a troop of the newly-formed Duke of Kingston’s Light Horse at Culloden. After Kingston’s Horse was disbanded in 1746, he joined the Duke of Cumberland’s Dragoons, was taken prisoner at the battle of Lauffeld in 1747, supped the same evening with Marshal de Saxe, and was exchanged next day.
