MEGGOTT, George (1669-1723), of Stoney Lane, St. Olave’s, Southwark.

In Sunderland’s lists for the 1722 Parliament Meggott is put down for Southwark, which his father, a rich brewer in St. Olave’s, had contested unsuccessfully in 1695. Returned at the top of the poll, he became ‘ill of a fever’ during the election.The Post Boy, 22-24 Mar. 1722. He died 12 Nov. 1723, leaving a half share in his two brewhouses to his wife, and the other to his son Smith Meggott,PCC 173 Bolton. who subsequently traded in partnership with Robert Hucks.
