O’BRIEN, Sir Edward, 2nd Bt. (1705-65), of Dromoland, co. Clare.

O’Brien, whose mother was Queen Anne’s cousin, appears to have had no connexion with Northamptonshire, except through his kinsman, the 8th Earl of Thomond, who owned estates in the county. Nevertheless in 1727 he was returned as a Tory for Peterborough by the partiality of the sheriff, only to be unseated on petition.CJ, xxi. 26. At a by-election in 1728 it was reported that the Tories intended to put him up again,Letters and Pprs. Banks Fam. (Lincoln Rec. Soc. xlv), 88-89. but in the event he did not stand. He died 26 Nov. 1765.
