PUGH, John (?1675-1737), of Mathafarn, Mont.

Under George I Pugh, a Tory, is not recorded as voting. In 1719 he was committed to the custody of the serjeant at arms for defaulting on a call of the House.CJ, xix. 61. In 1721 Montgomeryshire was described to the Pretender as ‘under the jurisdiction of Lord Hereford and Mr. Pugh of Mathafarn, both worthy men and firm, to be relied on’.Stuart mss 65/16. He did not stand in 1727, when there was a double return for Montgomery, in the proceedings on which he appeared as a witness for the Tory candidate.CJ, xxi. 138. He died 30 Nov. 1737.
