REBOW, Sir Isaac (1655-1726), of Head St., Colchester, Essex.

Descended from Flemish Protestant refugees and the grandson of a weaver, Rebow made a fortune in the clothing industry, becoming one of the leading men in Colchester,Essex Rev. vi. 174-5; J. H. Round, Hist. and Antiquities of Colchester Castle (1882), pp. 128-9. for which he was returned at the Revolution as a Whig. He was knighted by William III, who used to stay at his house on the way to and from Harwich.Luttrell, iii. 65, 216; iv. 698. Re-elected in 1715, he consistently supported the Government. Defeated in 1722, he petitioned, but though twice renewed his petition was not heard. He died 6 Sept. 1726, leaving the bulk of his estates to his grandson, Isaac Lemyng Rebow.PCC 192 Plymouth.
