Few details of Saunderson’s life are known. In May 1589 he wrote to Michael Hickes, Lord Burghley’s secretary, about a crazy ex-servant of his own, who had undertaken to remove a brood of devils. He was probably the Mr. Saunderson mentioned in a letter written in July 1603, by Vincent Skinner to Robert Cecil, from which it appears that Saunderson had been instrumental in bringing about the arrest of a fugitive priest. It was presumably his connexion with the Cecils which brought about Saunderson’s return to Parliament for West Looe in 1589.
