Stanford no doubt owed his return at Leicester to his family’s standing in the town. He served without wages and was made a freeman after the Parliament. He was first employed in 1600 as an assistant to Richard Parkins and appeared in various actions between Leicester and the duchy of Lancaster. He died intestate 1 Dec. 1603 and was buried at Barkby.C142/283/197; Vis. Leics. (Harl.
