biography text
When named as a collector of parliamentary subsidies in 1419, Wodefeld was described as ‘of Chiddingly’. However, two years earlier he had acquired a messuage and half an acre of land in Lewes and a deed of 1421 mentions his garden in the town. He served as a member of the jury which, in October 1424, provided information about the possessions of a convicted felon. Before February 1435 he brought a suit against John Palmer of Hoo, Sussex, for a debt of £6 1s.4d., but proved unsuccessful when the defendant failed to appear in court.
