TRENEWITH, Otto.

An obscure figure, this MP may have been the Otto, son of Ralph Trenewith, who in May 1405 was to receive, with his father and brother, John, seisin of Arthur Hamely’s lands in the manors of Allet and Helwyn and in the isles of Scilly.CAD, ii. C2114. If that was the case then he was Hamely’s nephew and the son of a Padstow man who had served briefly as a j.p. in 1403. It is likely, too, that he was the person of this name who acted as an attorney at the Launceston assizes in 1404 and at special assizes held elsewhere in Cornwall in 1410; and who, in the following year, appeared as a mainpernor in connexion with a Cornish lawsuit in the King’s bench. He attended the shire elections to the Parliaments of 1421 (May) and 1425, both of which were held at Lostwithiel.JUST 1/129/6, 1518 m. 20d; C219/12/5, 13/3; KB27/602 m. 23d. There was a third Otto Trenewith, who was the 2nd s. of Henry Trenewith alias Baillie of Tregenna in St. Ives by Eleanor da. of Thomas Rosmodres of St. Burian (Vivian, Vis. Cornw. 486). He m. Agnes and died in 1462 (Mon. Brasses Cornw. ed. Dunkin, pl. 14), after a career as a shipowner and man of property which fell mainly in the 1450s.
