A John Ipstones, esquire, served in the retinues of Hugh, earl of Stafford, Sir William Windsor and Sir Hugh Calveley over the years c.1377-1380, and was named as an attorney by the subject of this biography in March 1386. He was removed from his post as coroner of Staffs. in July 1394 because he lacked the necessary qualifications for office, and although he cannot have been Sir John’s son, they were almost certainly related (CFR, xiv. 230, 232, 244; CCR, 1392-6, p. 298)." style="color:red;" class="drupal_footnote
