He should not be confused with John Mucking (d.1383), of Mucking, Essex, who, as a distant kinsman of Sir Thomas Gravesend, inherited the manors of Gravesend and Paddocks in Milton, Kent (CFR, x. 52; CCR, 1377-81, pp. 63-64; CPR, 1391-6, p. 525; CIMisc. iv. 49). Mucking’s son was still a minor in 1393 when his wardship was being contested (CAD, ii. C2426).
