HULL, Robert, of Down Place, Surr.

Robert Hull was a tenant of the manor of Down Place in or before April 1399, when he and his wife were found to owe knight service of half a fee for the property. Most of Hull’s interests appear to have lain in this part of Surrey, and he was called upon to witness a number of deeds drawn up by his more influential neighbours. In June 1395, for example, he attested the settlement made by John Cross upon his trustees of land in Compton, Godalming and Guildford; and he was also a party to enfeoffments and quitclaims made by Thomas Brocas, William Sydney and Robert Bures, all of whom were local landowners.C136/108/52; CCR, 1392-6, pp. 426, 471; Guildford Mun.
