HOCKHAM, John, of Maldon, Essex.

Hockham, a cordwainer by trade, became a freeman of Maldon in January 1387. In July 1389 he was associated with other townsmen, including John Page, in a suit for trespass brought against them by the abbot of Beeleigh; Sir Bartholomew Bourgchier, Lord Bourgchier’s heir, stood surety on their behalf. Hockham was among the men of Maldon granted a charter of privileges by the lord of the borough, Bishop Braybrooke of London, in October 1403.CCR, 1389-92, p. 46; CPR, 1401-5, pp. 307-8.

Along with his son Robert, in July 1417 Hockham brought a plea of debt in the borough court at Colchester.Colchester Moot Hall, ct. roll 40 m. 2.
