A London silkman, Kirkman, after following an independent line in City politics, became one of the deputies for the London committee of association. At the general election of 1780 he stood jointly with the Wilkite radicals, Bull, Hayley and Sawbridge, and though he died on 19 Sept. 1780, six hours before the close of the poll, his name was returned as one of the duly elected Members.
