A merchant, Gould had maintained his interests in Dorset and owned property there. Gould first entered Parliament on his cousin James Gould’s* interest in 1679, when he supported Exclusion. He was returned for Weymouth in 1690, being listed as a Whig by Lord Carmarthen (Sir Thomas Osborne†) but had died before 28 Apr. 1691 when a new writ was issued. Dorset Nat. Hist. and Antiq. Soc.
