Returned for the venal borough of Hindon in 1690, Chafin was classified by Lord Carmarthen (Sir Thomas Osborne†) as a Tory and probable supporter of the Court. Nothing else is known about his brief parliamentary career in this period, apart from a posthumous appearance, as a courtier, in Robert Harley’s* analysis of the House in April 1691, Chafin having died on 17 Jan.
