CALTHORPE, Reynolds II (1689-1714), of Elvetham, Hants.

Calthorpe took over his father’s seat in the 1713 Parliament, surviving a contest and a petition. Welcomed by the Flying Post as a ‘good patriot’, he voted on 18 Mar. 1714 against the expulsion of Richard Steele and was classed as a Whig in the Worsley list and two other lists of the 1713 and 1715 Parliaments, but his parliamentary career was tragically brief.
