NORTON, Hon. Chapple (1746-1818).

Norton sat for Guildford on the family interest. He voted against the Duke of Richmond’s fortifications plan, 27 Feb. 1786, and afterwards explained ‘that he meant no more than to signify his objection to that particular plan’.Debrett, xix. 312. He was one of the independent Members, ‘unconnected with the parties that now exist’, who signed the third party circular in 1788; and he voted against Pitt on the Regency. He spoke occasionally in the House.

He died 19 9 Mar. 1818.
