Upon returning home from a continental tour that included Sicily and Spain, Viscount Lewisham sat in Parliament for less than a year on the Paget interest before succeeding to his father’s title. During that time he gave, if anything, a silent support to administration, the Whigs listing him as ‘against the opposition’. His sister Harriet married Sir Edward Paget who succeeded to his seat. He died 22 Nov. 1853.
