The 1589 Sudbury MP whose particulars appear above was not Sir Robert Jermyn’s son and heir, who was too young, but Sir Robert’s nephew. Despite Debden’s relative proximity to Sudbury, a duchy of Lancaster borough, Jermyn probably owed his return to Sir Francis Walsingham, the chancellor. At least, he would hardly have been elected without Walsingham’s approval. Jermyn died in 1607.
