Hill’s grandfather was a Taunton merchant who gave money for teachers in the town school, and his father was a ‘gospel favourer’ there in 1564. Hill was related by marriage to the Courtenay family, who presumably arranged his return to Parliament for Plympton. In 1572 Hill represented his native Taunton. Little more is known about him. He made his will in 1606 and died two years later, being buried at Pitminster 22 Dec. 1608. His son William, the executor, proved the will in the following year.Vis. Som. ed. Weaver, 32; Vis.
