FORTESCUE, William (c.1562-1629), of Hanslope, Bucks.

Fortescue owed his parliamentary seats to his father, the Sudbury council explicitly recording in 1593 that he was ‘appointed’ by his father. In Ireland in August 1599, he was in action under Sir John Norris during Tyrone’s rebellion, and against the Spaniards at the siege of Kinsale. He was knighted at Drogheda.
